We’ve been lied to by people in charge, we can’t trust them!

It is actually surprising that conspiracy theories don’t hold greater sway in our world.

We humans are taught from birth to listen to our elders, our parents, our teachers and our ministers. We are confident that these elders will guide us. We mimic their walking, their talking, trusting their delivery of food, warmth and shelter. Their truths and wisdom are designed to make our lives easier and more joyous.

Sometimes they are harsh with us, the “No” or “Stop” to keep us from a potential danger. Sometimes they are mad at us for giving voice to our curiosity.

We listen to their stories, learning how language works.

It is in the stories where conspiracy starts.

We listen to their stories of fanciful beings bringing us gifts or presents in exchange for our behavior. We get introduced to Santa first, followed by the Easter Bunny and sometime shortly thereafter, the Tooth Fairy.

Gifts appear and we are content.

The mythos builds, with parents hiding the presents until the last minute, sneaking them around the tree to maintain the Christmas Spirit.

But around first or second grade, someone has figured it out. We’ve been duped!
